With the picturesque Old Port of Chania as our backdrop, we board the boat and set off for the stunning Balos Lagoon. As we sail along the northern coastline of Chania Bay, we will pass Cape Spatha and continue with views of Kissamos Bay. On our right, we’ll see the island of Gramvousa.
Get ready to disembark and take a dip in the magnificent turquoise waters of Balos. Next, we will cross over to the island of Gramvousa, with its imposing castle perched at the summit. The island holds great historical and natural significance and is part of the protected Natura 2000 area. At the top of the island stands the famous Venetian Castle, built in the 16th century by the Venetians. The castle served as a strategic fortress, offering exceptional views of the sea and surrounding area while utilizing the island’s natural defenses. During the Greek Revolution of 1821, Gramvousa became a center of activity for Cretan revolutionaries and a base for pirates. After enjoying our swim, we set sail for the return journey back to the Old Port of Chania.
